Crosswords

I spent a lot of time during my PhD down in the crystallography room, screening lots of crystals from the group. The bookshelves were stacked with old issues of Chemistry World, and while I was waiting for the unit cells to be indexed I worked my way through about ten years' worth of cryptic chemistry crosswords. This inspired me to make my own, and this website seems as good a place as any to publish them. Feel free to print them out and take them to your instrument/spectrometer of choice to complete during any downtime - feedback is very much welcome! The solutions and explanations are at the bottom.

If you're new to cryptic crosswords and want to get involved, then there are many online guides, such as this series of articles. To start, I would recommend doing the quiptic (quick cryptic) on the Guardian website published every Monday, and then seeing the solutions/explanations on FifteenSquared (navigate to the appropriate date/crossword) - over time you will learn the tricks that are commonly employed. Good luck.
